About the Representatives

Gloria Kim

Dr. Gloria Kim is the Associate Chair for Research of the Department of Engineering Education in the UF Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering. She received her B.S. degree in Chemistry from Seoul National University, M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Her technical expertise is in biomaterials, molecular imaging and drug delivery. She has taught and developed courses in circuits, biomechanics, biomaterials, bioinstrumentation, and nanotechnology.

She is interested in educational environments and student learning; and social and ethical issues in STEM research and teaching. Her work includes creating opportunities for students to globalize their engineering degrees and mentoring students in teaching. In addition, Dr. Kim has mentored numerous student entrepreneurial teams to success. Dr. Kim has secured research funding from NSF and other funding agencies for her efforts to transform engineering education. She is an active member of ASEE and has served in various leadership positions at the Korean American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) and the Korean Society for Engineering Education (KSEE).

Prof. Sung-Jin Song

Professor Sung-Jin Song received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea in 1981, a M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1983, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA in 1991. He has worked at Daewoo Heavy Industries, Ltd., Incheon, Korea for 5 years from 1983. He has worked at Chosun University, Gwangju, Korea as Assistant Professor for 5 years from 1993. Since 1998 he has been at Sungkyunkwan University, Suwon, Korea and is currently Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

His research interest includes development of advanced Nondestructive Evaluation techniques using Ultrasound, Eddy Current, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Acoustic Metamaterials.

He has served as Executive Vice President, Sungkyunkwan University, Dean of College of Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University, Director of Center for Innovative Engineering Education, Sungkyunkwan University, and Director of Sungkyunkwan University Hub Center for Innovative Engineering Education. He has also served as the Founding President of Korea Association for Innovative Engineering Education. He currently is a member of National Academy of Engineering of Korea, a member of Gas Technology Standards Committee in Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea, the Chair of Accreditation Body Review Committee in Ministry of Education of korea.

Prof. Jong-Moon Chung

Professor Jong-Moon Chung is an IEEE Fellow and member of the Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) honor society and the National Academy of Engineering of Korea. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronic engineering from Yonsei University (Seoul, South Korea) and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University (University Park, PA, USA). From 1997 to 1999, he was an Assistant Professor and Instructor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University. From 2000 to 2005, he was a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Oklahoma State University (OSU). Since 2005, he has been a Professor with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Yonsei University, where he is also the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and a Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine in the College of Medicine, all at Yonsei University.

His book “Emerging Metaverse XR and Video Multimedia Technologies” was published by Apress (Springer Nature) in 2022. In 2022, he received the ‘Award of Excellence’ from the National Academy of Engineering of Korea. Both in 2021 and 2019, he received the top ‘Award of Excellence’ from the Ministry of Interior and Safety (MOIS) of the Republic of Korea for the mixed reality (MR) composite disaster training system he developed for the South Korea government. He has developed many new technologies in XR/MR/AR, smart factory control systems for industry, autonomous driving technologies and ADAS/CAN/DSRC/C-V2X as well as BEV/FCEV technologies for Hyundai Motors, 6G/5G/LTE/Wi-Fi and smartphone technologies for Samsung, LG, and Google, and AI optimized electronic circuit designs for LG Display.

His courses in Coursera (https://www.coursera.org/instructor/jmcyonsei) on deep learning, big data, AR/XR, multimedia streaming, MPEG-DASH, cloud/edge computing, smartphones/smartwatches, 4G, 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, TCP/IP, Internet, security, and IoT technologies have been accessed by over 1.8 million users and was listed among the top 33 industry recommended courses. He served as the General Co-Chair of the IEEE ICCE 2022 and was the General Chair of ICONI 2022 & 2016, IEEE ICCE-Asia 2020, and IEEE MWSCAS 2011. He is currently a Vice President for the IEEE Consumer Technology Society (CTSoc) and the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society (PSES). He is also a Senior Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, Section Editor of the Wiley ETRI Journal, Co-Editor-in-Chief of the KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Systems, and was an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technologies from 2011 to 2021.
