About the Representative

Anne Gardner

Anne Gardner PhD, MEngStud, BE (Hons)(Civil), is currently President of the Australasian Association for Engineering Education (AAEE) and a Fellow of Engineers Australia. She is Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Technology Sydney. Prior to being appointed ADTL she was the inaugural Head of School for the School of Professional Practice and Leadership after serving as Acting Head of School in the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering at UTS. These positions reflect Anne’s substantial experience in and dedication to the field of engineering education.

Anne is also a member of ASEE, SEFI and REEN – and has regularly attended SEFI and REEN conferences. She is on the Editorial Board for the European Journal for Engineering Education.
Anne’s research in engineering education has included work on improving the understanding of the learning associated with, and assessment of, collaborative learning and flipped learning environments, including the innovative use of self and peer assessment processes and the provision of feedback for developing professional judgement. Her experience in practiced-based education has motivated her linking of students’ attribute development to those required for professional practice. She has also conducted research to characterise the renegotiation of academic identity for engineering academics who are transitioning to research in engineering education.

Anne has received national recognition for her work in educational research and development including a National Teaching Fellowship, the Engineers Australia Engineering Excellence Award, the AAEE Teaching Excellence Award, the AAEE Award for Excellence in Research Design (twice) and a national Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
Anne is a longstanding member of the AAEE Executive Committee and as well as serving as President, she facilitates the annual AAEE Winter School for researchers to support novice researchers in their transition to engineering education research.
