This talk will give an overview and discuss Sustainable Systems Engineering (SUSE), a new undergraduate program at the University of Calgary trying to reimagine engineering education for the 21st century. Rooted in systems thinking, transdisciplinarity, and regenerative design, SUSE was launched in response to the climate crisis and the evolving role of engineers as stewards of both society and the environment. Students are taught to approach engineering challenges not as isolated technical issues but as part of complex human, ecological, and technological systems. Sustainability is framed as a socio-technical challenge requiring equity, justice, and ethical reflection—not just environmental protection. SUSE challenges traditional engineering hierarchies by valuing emotional intelligence, ethical reflexivity, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems.

We are honored to announce that our Rising to the Top book series has added TWO new volumes!
Rising to the Top provides an intimate and inspiring look into the experiences that have shaped the lives and careers of women engineering leaders from around the world. By openly sharing their personal journeys in these pages, the authors hope to not only inspire the next generation of engineering leaders, but also provide valuable insight into the challenges facing women engineers around the world, and the opportunities that are theirs for the taking.
