Engineering Pedagogy (EP) is a branch of education that impart knowledge and principles to the professional practice of engineering. It is educational science subject that helps to identify, analyze the current and future demands of society, and come up with good curriculum content; selects the learning aid, methods, which technologies to employ and suggest the learning environment where learning should take place. As a result, an ideal engineering educator/lecturer/teacher is very important in conveying engineering knowledge. They not only possess subject matter knowledge, teaching skills, research experience, problem-solving skills, and interpersonal skills but also know how to pass it onto their students clearly and effectively. This is because every employer wants to employ the best engineer with a wide set of skills. Thus, we can say that Engineering Pedagogy is the foundation for transforming the social demand for professional engineers into satisfying results through the system of engineering education.  The current engineering education status in Sub-Saharan Africa requires a real overhaul. This is because several reports continue to be published on the improvement of engineering education and training in African Countries. The reports indicate that there is an acute shortage of domestic skilled labour among engineers, making it necessary to import foreign engineering skills. Yet universities in the region continue to Chan-out engineers every year in big numbers. The deficiency of skillful engineers has been attributed due to the following reasons; insufficient output from the training institutions; poor quality of the engineering education system; lack of practical experience among graduates; engineering educators’ lack of subject matter knowledge; and others. The speaker presents why engineering education has not taken off well, outline challenges faced by engineering educators, solutions to the challenges identified and recommendations for a better engineering pedagogy system to take shape in the Sub-Saharan region.
