In the past 10 years, the undergraduate in Chemical Engineering of Faculty of Chemical Engineering at the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY) have had problem with permanence and terminal efficiency, whose rate in 2011 was 48%. Thus, we see the need to analyze the factors that negatively affect these indicators. In this sense, it is said that the problem of reprobation is a causal factor of backwardness and desertion. Remedial actions have been implemented as preparatory courses and extracurricular workshops. However, the results have not been desirable. This is due to the fact that there is still no culture of monitoring and systematic evaluation of the student in dependence and little empirical evidence on the factors causing the problem, which begs the need for an analysis of factors affecting reprobation, lag and desertion.
