Annual IFEES Summit
and the World Engineering Education Forum
A major activity of IFEES is the annual IFEES Summit. After IFEES was founded in Rio de Janeiro in 2006, the first IFEES Summit took place in Istanbul, Turkey in 2007. The Summit has served as an opportunity for IFEES members to gather in one place, discuss leading issues in engineering education, and to share and learn best practices. The IFEES Summit is also a place where IFEES members and other attendees form important collaborations, such as the Indo-US Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE), the International Institute for Developing Engineering Academics (IIDEA), and the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC).
Since 2010, the Summit has taken place as part of World Engineering Education Forum (WEEF) every alternate year. Aware of the costliness (time and money) of traveling internationally, Leaders in the global engineering education community sought to bring together the world’s engineering education societies to the same place at one time, allowing for logistical and programmatic synergies. The first WEEF was held in Singapore in October 2010. The WEEF has been an important event in furthering IFEES’ mission to bring together the global community to build excellence in engineering education. he venue of the WEEF changes each year, and the event has brought great visibility to the local institutions which otherwise may not have had such opportunities to interact and cooperate with foreign and international engineering education organizations.
