Embedded Systems Design Academic Curriculum Sharing Across Ibero-America

This paper describes the current research and development initiative by the Ibero-American Science and Technology Education Consortium (ISTEC), the University of South Florida, and the University of New Mexico to create a community of universities to share platforms and academic resources related to STEM areas across Latin American countries. Key industry players such as Xilinx are supporting the project by enabling access to their tools and hardware. ISTEC is focused on fostering sustainable socio-economic development in Ibero-America by focusing on generating and disseminating knowledge and information, establishing opportunities for technology transfer, and supporting an environment for entrepreneurship and collaboration. Such goals are being achieved by nurturing a network that promotes trust and integration between academia, government, industry and society. The paper will describe the current methodologies and tools used in the courses, the content generation, and the enabling networking platforms
