This paper will review the brief history of the engineering educational accreditation in China, focusing on the progress and changes since 2006 when China began the pilot accreditation practice on engineering educational programs. The recent development of the accreditation system includes changes to the accreditation criteria and the newly established Chinese Engineering Education Accreditation Association. Though the accreditation system has been improved a lot during the pilot accreditation, there are still great challenges for China. The author analyzed the characteristics of Chinese accreditation system and summarized three challenges: quality insurance in the largest engineering education country; the balance between localization and internationalization; the understanding and recognition from stakeholders. The paper concludes with the future plan for China’s engineering accreditation practice.
