ASEE Corporate Member Council Special Interest Group (SIG) for International Engineering Education in partnership with IFEES

Mission

The mission of the International Engineering Education SIG is to foster, encourage and support the interests of the ASEE Corporate Members in establishing and promoting high-quality engineering education around the world to assure a global supply of well-prepared engineering graduates.

The International Engineering Education SIG is working to enhance the ability of engineering faculty, students and practitioners to understand the various cultures of the world and work effectively within them. It helps connect engineering graduates with CMC members - international corporations with a pressing need for well-trained engineers able to work in a global environment.

Attributes of a Global Engineer

The initial initiative of the International Engineering Education SIG has been to develop and present an assessment of the skills and experiences required by engineering graduates to work effectively in a global environment. Our goal is enhancing the employability of engineering graduates and increasing the international competitiveness of ASEE’s academic members.

Over the past two years the International Engineering Education SIG has developed, presented and vetted an assessment of the skills and experiences required by engineering graduates to work effectively in a global environment.

The list of attributes of a "global engineer" can be found here.

Survey

The International Engineering Education SIG, in association with IFEES, has released an online survey to enhance the preparation, performance and employability of engineering graduates living and working in an increasingly global context.

Educators, employers, students, and professional engineers throughout the global engineering community are encouraged to participate in the survey at http://www.ifees.net/activities/Attributes-of-a-Global-Engineer-Survey.cfm. To obtain feedback from the largest possible audience, ASEE has collaborated with the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES), to make the survey available in Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.

No personally-identifiable information will be sought, participants may choose to not answer any question, and only summarized responses will be reported. Findings will be published upon completion of the survey at the end of 2011.
